"Northern Aviation has always been gripping - particularly prior to "GPS" and the like - this one spells it out beautifully and with flair"
Ray Berube, retired C46/DC4 pilot, Northern Operations

"...It reminded me of Ernie Gann's stories." (Fate is the Hunter, Island in the Sky).
Captain John Meyers, United Airlines (Retired)

In The Big Dipper Route Danny Bereza recounts some of the amusing, frightening, life-threatening and exhilarating things that happened to him during his early career as a passenger plane pilot during the pioneering days of Arctic flying. Getting lost, running out of fuel, helping a dying man, being the co-pilot during a plane crash and taking part in one of the most bizarre party antics of all time are just some of the memorable and at times inspiring events he writes about.

One of the most compelling passages in the book details his increasingly hopeless attempts to start a frozen plane engine in minus 40 degree temperatures. Alone and frustrated he struggles against the killing cold and the despair of his desperate situation, when he is confronted by a spirit of the white wilderness in the form of an arctic fox. The encounter gives him renewed hope and determination. Written to both thrill and delight, this book deserves to become a classic of flying tales.
